Located on the northeast corner of Kangaroo Island, Dudley Peninsula is the main gateway onto the island, as it is home to its main ferry port. The port sits in Penneshaw, which is the second largest town on the island and where the island’s largest selection of accommodations and eateries can be found.
Penneshaw features a number of attractions, including the Maritime and Folk Museum, Hog Bay and the Penneshaw Penguin Centre. The Penneshaw Penguin Centre offers guided tours to see the Little Penguins that live in the area.
These are the world’s smallest penguin and usually grow to be just 33 centimetres high. They are extremely cute and a must see.
West of Penneshaw is Baudin Beach, which is a great place to relax and unwind. The beach is a great spot for swimming and the off shore rocks are ideal for fishing.
Pelicans, wallabies, kangaroos and dolphins can all be seen going about their day and at dawn the beach boasts a stunning sunset.
Wine lovers should head to The Cellar Door, which serves up wine brewed by Dudley Wines, a family business that was started in 1997.
The cellar Door is perched on a cliff top and some spectacular views can be seen while enjoying this award-winning wine. Their wine tasting is the best way to indulge in a wide selection of their products.
The Cape Hart Conservation Park (now called Lesueur Conservation Park) is situated on the southeast coast of the peninsula. This nature reserve is famous for its remarkable coastal cliff scenery with cliffs that are lined with low shrub land and Eucalyptus cneorifolia.
Kangaroo Island Kangaroos, Tammar Wallabies and Australian Sea Lions are often spotted in the park.
