The small landlocked Kangaroo Island town of Parndana lies west of Kingscote along the Playford Highway. What Parndana lacks in beaches and coastal scenery, it makes up for with a convenient central location easy to reach from all corners of Kangaroo Island.
Parndana contains a couple of general stores and a small hotel, but the community’s main tourist attraction is the nearby Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park.
This sanctuary south of Parndana includes over 50 different species of plants not found anywhere else on Earth.
The animals who roam the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park are even more numerous and exotic.
Australian species such as koalas, wombats, and kangaroos can be found alongside 1,500 more wildlife species. Many of the park’s animals are orphaned or injured, and guests who adopt animals can receive personalised certificates, regular updates, and up close and personal encounters.
Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park visitors can cuddle, feed, or have photographs taken with some of its most exotic creatures like koalas, pythons, or lizards.
A special session at the koala enclosure takes place three times each day.
Parndana’s other main attractions aside from the wilderness park are the Soldier Settlement Museum preserving the history of the Soldier Settlement Scheme which led to the establishment of Parndana after WWII, and a guild of spinners and weavers who hold weekly wool spinning demonstrations.
