Caravan and Camping
Camp grounds and caravan parks on Kangaroo Island.

Kangaroo Island has a total of three privately owned caravan parks and two council run campgrounds. Visitors wishing to transport campervans aboard the SeaLink ferry from mainland South Australia to the island must make advance reservations and specify the exact length of their vehicles. Advance reservations should also be made at caravan parks during peak times.

Brownlow's Kingscote Tourist Park and Family Units overlooks a safe Nepean Bay children's beach where dolphins swim alongside black swans. Accommodations range from basic fishermen's cabins to a one-bedroom honeymoon suite. Two bedroom units suitable for families are also available in this natural bushland setting.

Another seaside caravan park, Kangaroo Island Shores, faces the Hog Bay beach near Penneshaw just 200m from the ferry terminal. All dozen seafront rooms boast private oceanfront balconies, while tropical plants surround the garden villas. Rooms are also available at the original Sorrento Guest House building.

Guests can stay at standard park cabins, luxury cabins, or self-contained log cabins during their stay at the Western KI Caravan Park and Wildlife Reserve. Flinders Chase National Park is just a short drive away from this wildlife reserve where bush walkers may come in close contact with wallabies, koalas, or even kangaroos. Unpowered tent sites and fully powered campsites are also available here.

Browns Beach contains a rustic campground with only unpowered sites, but the recently refurbished American River and Vivonne Bay campgrounds include both powered and unpowered sites. Bush camping is strictly prohibited on Kangaroo Island and wood fires are not permitted at conservation sites or national parks.

Penneshaw's Gateway Visitor Information Centre has all the latest updates on campground booking, fire restrictions, and other important information for Kangaroo Island campers.
